The reason the carpet is wet from underneath is that there is moisture trapped in the carpet cushion or underlay. Another reason is there is probably some leak that has not been attended to inside the property.
What is causing the wet carpet ?
Essentially the way we fix this problem is by eliminating the source of the water damage. Some causes of the water damage include
Water coming up through concrete slab due to ineffective concrete moisture barriers
Water coming through retaining wall inside property
Leak in wall
Previous water damage from a burst pipe
How to Find the Cause
Generally a professional will do a full inspection of the property and find out how it is constructed and work out how the drainage works. A typical tool used in the inspection is a moisture metre and a thermal imaging camera. These tools can be used to pinpoint where exactly the moisture may be coming from.
How to Fix Carpet that is Wet from Underneath
After you have determined the cause of the water damage coming from underneath, you can then go about fixing the issue. Remember, if the cause is not fixed, the problem may come back again.
You can fix this by placing air movement with a wet carpet drying fan from underneath the carpet.
You will also need to remove any carpet underlay underneath to ensure the underlay is dried properly. Once the carpet underlay has been dried off-site and the carpet has been dried with industrial fans – you can replace the underlay back underneath the carpet
