How do I dry my carpet properly?
If you are experiencing a leak or flood at your property that is sizable or more than you can handle, please call us 1300 077 983. We have 20 years of day-to-day industry experience. We can assist and ensure everything is dried correctly and promptly.
To dry carpet at your property, you will need to follow these steps below:
Remove furniture and items from wet carpet
Removing items off the floor ensures that the carpet does not experience any staining from items soaking up water and bleeding the colour into the carpet. These stains can be very hard to remove. If items are unable to be moved, or you have nowhere to put them, try to prop these items up with plastic blocks (or something that will not bleed colour).
Removing items from the carpet also enables better access to the carpet for the next step.
Extract standing water from carpet
This step will dramatically reduce the amount of time the carpet will take to dry. To extract water from the carpet you will need any sort of wet dry vacuum. You can also hire these vacuums from different equipment hire places (see agile equipment hire at Agile Wet Dry Vacuum Hire.
By extracting the water via a wet/dry vacuum you will be able to remove around 80-90% of the water from the carpet. Unfortunately, the last 10-20% can be the hardest to remove, which is why you will need the next step.
Air Movement
Evaporation is crucial to any drying process. To encourage this process, it is imperative to introduce air movement along the surface of the carpet. This can be achieved by installing air movers (or fans) into your property that push is along the surfaces. Ceiling fans may help but are not well suited to air movement along the surface.
Air movers are fan units specifically designed to move an optimal amount of air at a good spread to encourage evaporation to build materials. These can be hired from agile equipment hire at the following link:
Alternatively, you can call us at 1300 077 983. and we can discuss how we can dry your carpet. If you believe the amount of water or spread to be small, then you may be able to do the following to dry your carpet section:
- If it is a dry day, open your windows to the room to encourage airflow
Turn on your ceiling fan in the room if you have one
- Place any household fans you might have to blow along the surface of the carpet.
- If it is a small corner that is wet, consider lifting back the carpet corner to expose the backside and underlay of the carpet.
Again, these recommendations are only for small wet carpet sections, if you have a bigger leak on your hands, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 1300 077 983. While air movement is important, what happens to all the moisture that is evaporated?
